THE POLICE High Command has strategically moved manpower and resources to bolster a new crime-fighting initiative implemented in several volatile communities islandwide.
In an effort to strengthen the policing power, over 400 new graduates have been dispatched to a number of divisions. According to the information published in the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) Weekly Force Orders, at least 60 persons will go to St. Andrew North and the Motorised Patrol Division and St. Catherine South will get a batch of 50 each.
St. Andrew South, St. James and Clarendon, three of the divisions with high homicide rates, will be equipped with more personnel with the hope to get the root of the crime problem. Each will get some 40 additional men. Portland, Kingston Central and St. Ann will each be strengthen by 30 more persons.
The JCF Force Orders further stressed that 48 experienced persons from the Motorised Patrol Division are being re-assigned to the St. Andrew South, St. James, Clarendon, St. Catherine North and St. Andrew Central divisions. They will be replaced by 50 new faces fresh from the Police Academy.
At the same time, a seven-day crime initiative implemented by Police Commissioner Francis Forbes last week has been extended for another seven days. Scores of police personnel have been dispatched islandwide, conducting roadblocks and searching vehicles in various communities.
"This initiative has been successful... so far, we have got a number of positives," said Deputy Commissioner Lucius Thomas.
