St Jago run away with area Champs

ST. JAGO'S boys and girls topped the two-day WINDALCO-sponsored North Central Athletics Championships that ended yesterday at Ewarton Sports Club.

In the girls' section, St. Jago proved too strong for their rivals, beating the closest team, Tacius Golding (227 points), by 278 points, this after scoring a mammoth 505 points.

Guy's Hill (190), McGrath (94) and St. Catherine (88) completed the top five girls schools after 16 finals.

In the boys segment, the Monk Street-based institution topped the standings with 422 points.

Tacius Golding (291), McGrath (111), Guy's Hill (109) and Ewarton rounded off the top five.

Tacius Golding dominated the long distances, this after Tamica Thomas (10.52.40) and Venessa Whittle (11.32.70) topped the 3000m and Ricardo Edwards (16:46.10) and Jason Craig (17:51.30) came out on top in the boys' 5000m.

QUINELA

St. Jago's pair of Nashauna Willock (12.2) and Sudian Davis (13.4) registered a quinela in the Class One girls 100m, while Dwayne Byfield of McGrath (11.00) took the boys equivalent ahead of St. Catherine's Damon Robinson (11.1).

In the Class Two event, Nikoda Patterson of St. Jago (12.2) won the girls' section ahead of Jhnell Brown of St. Catherine (12.7), while Leslie Howard (11.2), also of St. Jago, topped the boys' section ahead of Dwayne Johnson of Tacius Golding (11.4).

In the 400m hurdles, Didra Harrison of St. Jago (1:08.17) topped her teammate Ishana Dawkins (1:14.13) for the girls' title, while Sheldon Wilkinson of St. Jago (57.79) beat Tacius Golding's Dorrell Hudson (1:02.81) for second place.

Tacius Golding dominated the Class One 800m with Vanessa Whittle (2:14.35) and Tamika Thomas (2:22.52) finishing one-two in the girls' division, while Jerome Francis (1:58.72) and Ricardo Edwards (1:59.19) also came in one-two in the boys' section.

Deneshia Gray of Guy's Hill (18.77m) and Patricia Headmanson of Tacius Golding (24.91), took top honours in the discus Class One and Two events respectively.

Some of St. Jago's other victors were Nadina Marsh (14.6) in the Class One 100m hurdles, Tamara Francis (58.50) and Andrea Linton in the Classes Two and One 400m, respectively.
