Bull Bay set to qualify
published: Saturday | March 6, 2004

Anthony Foster, Freelance Writer

LEADERS Bull Bay will face Barbican in a crucial match today as preliminary round action ends in the JNBS-sponsored Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Super League.

Bull Bay are top of the standings on 33 points with a superior goal difference to Maverley/ Hughenden, which have the same number of points, while Barbican lie fifth on 30 points.

With only four teams guaranteed a spot in the semi-finals and with the top five bunched tightly, anything but a win will ruin Barbican's chance to advance. Bull Bay, on the other hand, need only a draw.

Joint leaders Maverley/ Hughenden tackle Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) in a match which could go either way. Despite having a game in hand, the soldiers are out of contention at seventh place on 23 points.

AMONG THE TOP FOUR

With regards to Maverley-Hughenden, a draw will be good enough to certify them a place among the top four. They also have an outstanding game.

A point behind the leading duo are Boys' Town and Mid Season champions Santos.

Boys' Town (32 points), buoyant after Sunday's Jackie Bell semi-final success over Premier League team Constant Spring, look almost certain to advance though travelling to Cling Cling Oval to face Olympic Gardens (10), the bottom of the table team.

A point of note though is that Olympic have two outstanding matches and can save themselves from relegation with victory in all their remaining fixtures, hoping at the same time that Duhaney Park and Real Mona lose their outstanding matches as well.

TODAY'S MATCHES

  • Cavalier vs. August Town at St. George's College,

  • Meadhaven United vs. Shortwood United,

  • Whitfield Town vs. Pembrook Hall at Tinson Pen

  • Rae Town vs. Greenwich Town at Breezy Castle.
