A tale of two Mayors
THE EDITOR, Sir: IT IS just so amazing that here are two individuals who have come from extremely humble beginnings, risen to become chairman of their respective municipalities...

'Why bother with teachers' colleges'
THE EDITOR, Sir: I WOULD like to ask the question: "Why bother with teachers' colleges in Jamaica?" It is clear that all one has to do is to leave High School, go to University for two years, get a Degree and apply at almost any school.

A majority want hanging
THE EDITOR, Sir: I BELIEVE the overwhelming majority of our fellow Jamaicans are at least silently asking if and when hanging will resume.

Embarrassed for Jamaica
THE EDITOR, Sir: I HAVE been coming to Jamaica for years and just love it. I recently returned from a cruise that docked in Ocho Rios and was dismayed to see that we were in front of the old bauxite plant (now used to load garbage?).

Has America forgotten its vow?
THE EDITOR, Sir: I PERSONALLY am most distressed at the attitude the United States has taken about the Haitians fleeing their country.

Reform the Nat'l Honours system
THE EDITOR, Sir: RADICAL REFORM in the National Honours system could make it an instrument to promote inclusiveness, motivate the nation and allow it to become genuinely national.

Why raise hospital fees?
THE EDITOR, Sir: THE MINISTER of Health, Hon John Junor, has announced that hospital fees will be going up. This inspite of the fact that 84 per cent of the patients who receive medical attention right now are unable to pay.

Develop a device to prevent road carnage
THE EDITOR, Sir: AS A driver, I've observed drivers running the red light, failing to stop at stop signs, and driving through while pedestrians are on the 'cross walk'.
