A disincentive in 'buying Jamaican'

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I support the 'Buy Jamaica Campaign'. However, we as Jamaicans, especially our farmers, need to facilitate the process. In the first place our cost of production is higher than that of the countries from which we import goods. Nevertheless, many Jamaicans decide to pay the higher price in a patriotic gesture.
What I would implore of our farmers is that they take more care in the presentation of their produce. When we purchase Irish potatoes, for example, we do not need the soil in which they were grown as well. The same goes for the yams and sweet potatoes. We deserve a clean product.
On a whole presentation is a major let down and a disincentive in 'buying Jamaican'. Given the current economic situation we need every incentive to build our own economy and have the input of all well-thinking Jamaicans.
