Politicians at it again
published: Wednesday | March 10, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

OUR 'BLOW hot air' politicians are it again; making as if they are serious about punishing tax cheats. I think the increased fines for tax evasion, although a positive step, does not go far enough. The tax law should be causing tax evaders and potential evaders to be fearful of the tax man. For this tax law to be a deterrent, this increase in fines should accompany swift confiscation of property in case of non-payment of fines and/or jail time.

Until this happens then our politicians (some of them possible tax cheats) will have just created another paper tiger.

I am, etc.,
