THE GLEANER yesterday honoured Brian Young for his many years of service to the newspaper.
Mr. Young, who resigned from the company's board recently, spent seven years as a director and 24 years as a member and chairman of the Accounts and Budget Committee.
The newspaper's chairman and managing director, Oliver Clarke, praised Mr. Young for his excellent contributions to the newspaper, stating that the company was very fortunate to have had his service.
"All the board members really enjoyed working with Brian," Mr. Clarke said at a board luncheon in honour of Mr. Young. "He is an exceptionally bright and honest person."
Christopher Roberts, The Gleaner's deputy managing director, also hailed Mr. Young for his service, declaring that he had done a very good job.
Both Mr. Clarke and Mr. Roberts thanked Pamela Young for the strong support she gave her husband during his long association with the newspaper.
PRAISE FOR MANAGEMENT TEAM
Mr. Young, responding, thanked the newspaper for the opportunity to serve as a director, adding that it was "mentally stimulating." He also had words of praise for the "talented people" on the board and management team of the newspaper. He said that he has accepted the management's invitation to continue to serve on the Accounts and Budget Committee.
Among those who attended yesterday's luncheon were former director Augusta Payne, Jill Roberts, wife of The Gleaner's deputy managing director; Elizabeth Jones-Kerr; and current directors Gerald Lalor, Morin Seymour, Lisa Johnston and Dr. Carol Archer. Honorary chairman of the board, Richard Ashenheim, also attended.
