FAST BOWLER Elvis Watson took 6-49 to lead Jamaica College (JC) to their first schoolboy cricket title in 20 years.

In the two-day final that ended at Melbourne Oval which concluded yesterday, JC topped Meadow-brook on first innings to lift the Urban A League (second division) trophy.

Final scores in the two-day final: Jamaica College (JC) 244 and 162; Meadowbrook 183.

Resuming the day on 55 for two, in search of another 189 runs, Meadowbrook's batsman found the bowling of Watson hard to handle and surrendered towards the end.

Opener Diego Clarke, who looked shaky at the start, recovered to top score with 63 but despite adding 100 with fellow overnight batsman Sean Whitehorne, who contributed 54, Meadowbrook's lower order crumbled. Whitehorne was the first to go, caught on the long-off boundary off Oliver Walker at 106 for three. Then things got worse for Meadowbrook as Errol Chevannes, 10, and Yannick Chang, two, departed to leave the team at 147 for five at lunch.

When Clarke ran himself out shortly after the interval, Meadowbrook's dream of winning a cricket title in 18 years collapsed. Oliver Walker (2-35) and Andre Green (1-21) supported Watson. In their second turn at bat, JC were dismissed for 162. Again left-arm spinner Dennis Bulli was the danger man, taking 4-62 to finish with match figures of 12-159.

Chevannes, 3-27, and Bernard Burton, 2-27, were also among the wickets. Walker, 42, Dwayne Hibbert, 25, and Davian Johnson, 16, got the most runs for JC.
