Market life
published: Saturday | March 20, 2004

- Text and photography by George Henry

  • Name: Sarah Haynes

  • Market: Spaldings, Clarendon

  • Number of years as a vendor: 20

  • On the effects of drought on market produce: "We are having it hard to get produce due to the drought. I cannot get things like cabbage, carrot and sweet peppers. I can get only a little tomato and because of the drought I have to be paying up to $35 per pound at the wholesale price for the cabbage and $30 per pound for carrot. As a result, I cannot make much profit because the customers do not want to pay more (than the regular price) for them."
