So true, Dr Munroe
published: Saturday | March 20, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I TEND to agree with Dr. Trevor Munroe as represented in an article published in this newspaper on March 18, 2004, regarding "Call for conscience vote on Rights Charter".

In addition, I would also suggest strongly the urgent need for a massive public media campaign regarding basic rights of Jamaicans in the charter in relation to rights of the child, women, gender issues and discrimination, rights of political opinion/persuasion.

Many grass roots Jamaicans seem to have forgotten the rights of others, including the right of mere existence/life. I would suggest that the Government adopt even a little of the Rights Charter of developed countries like Canada, with immigrants from over 150 countries world-wide, a vast cultural mix, yet able to maintain a sober society because the Rights Charter not only exists, but more importantly, is enforced to protect every citizen.

I am, etc.,
