Schoolboys battle for national supremacy
published: Saturday | March 20, 2004

THE NATIONAL champions of the ISSA/KFC Schoolboy Basketball competition will be crowned today when the finalists in the Under-16 and Under-19 groups meet at the National Indoor Sports Centre beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The indomitable St. George's College will be going for the double against Tivoli High in a rematch of the Southern Conference final.

St. George's have been flawless this season, winning all 14 games played, including two against Tivoli in the best-of-three series of the Southern Conference final.

St. George's best offensive player, Michael Rogers, who scored 42 points in the semi-final against Old Harbour High, is expected to lead his team against Tivoli, who are led by nifty guard Dandre Miller.

St. George's have the deepest Under-16 team and could hold their own against most of the senior teams. Besides Rogers, guard Joscelyn Campbell, centre Tigan Cain and swingman David Schwitzke have dominated their opponents, winning of all their games by an average of 20 points.

In the same breath, Miller, Romane Slowley and Havando Dunn will be gunning to grant their coach's wish of 'winning the all-island' title.

Calabar High and Old Harbour High follow in the Under-19 game at 6:30 p.m.
