Support the Girls' Brigade
published: Sunday | March 21, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ON SATURDAY March 6, hundreds of members of the Girls' Brigade assembled at King's House for the launch of Girls' Brigade Month and Tag Drive by Sir Howard Cooke, Governor-General.

The very spectacular aspect of Saturday's event was the March Past by members of the Girls' Brigade and other invited uniformed youth groups. This march past proceeded around the beautiful grounds of King's House and was led by no less a band than that of the Jamaica Constabulary Force!

Perhaps the marchers who attracted most attention were the tiny Explorers and their counterpart the little Boys' Brigade members. They marched with discipline and precision. They were so cute. However, cuteness was not the criterion. A few of the G.B. members, big and little, were not in the march past and when I asked why, one of them said "we didn't have our cap". I thought there is discipline for you.

The Girls' Brigade has made a significant contribution to the life of this country let us help them with their motto for this month 'together we can grow'. This is also taxes month, but please contribute to the Girls' Brigade as generously as you can.

I am, etc.,

ELSIE SAYLE
