A principled position
published: Monday | March 22, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

MR. PRIME Minister P.J. Patterson, you make us Jamaican proud and we thank you. Proud of the kindness you've shown to the Haitian refuges

Proud of the courage you've shown in accepting Aristide as our visitor against the wishes of the United States.

Proud of the chivalrous way in which you've conducted yourself against the undiplomatic behaviour of USA ambassador to Jamaica Sue Cobb. Proud of your well reasoned and diplomatic response to the non-elected Haitian Prime Minister Gerard Latortue's irrational act. Proud of your strong leadership as chairman of CARICOM.

Jamaicans, we all have reasons to be proud, not simply because we are a proud set of people, but because our selflessness is second to none.

Prime Minister P.J. Patterson, indeed it is a 'Principled Position'. It's also the right position and we stand in solidarity with you, sir.

I am, etc.,

MELTON DALEY
