THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE QUESTION is being constantly asked as to who is/are behind the extortion racket and are they so untouchable that nothing can be done to bring them to justice.
Why is it so difficult for the persons being robbed of cash that they cannot report the matter to the police. The main contractors on these projects must speak the truth. But then again, it's the Government's money. Let us face reality, it is a major crisis in this country and should not be tolerated.
My suggestion is that personnel from the security forces along with the contractors could launch a programme to capture the culprits. The first step is to monitor the construction sites where government projects are being done whereby all persons coming and going through be under surveillance.
The entire exercise will of course be costly; however, if that course could be followed within a short period the extortionists will be extinct.
Let the thinking begin now.
