THE EDITOR, Sir:
IT IS with heartfelt appreciation and admiration that I take the time to pen this letter to you, the public and the Jamaica Constabulary Force. As with everything and everyone in the universe, there is good and bad, however, we always tend to focus on, get excited about, and give glory, only to the bad around us.
On Sunday, February 15, 2004, the day after Valentine's Day, I lost my father who is the life-long love of my mother.
The police were summoned and within 15 minutes, they responded. Constable Franklyn (Badge # 10498) and Corporal Gayle (Badge # 4961) both from Spanish Town Police Station, arrived on the scene. They were both neatly and immaculately dressed, very pleasant and presented themselves in a very intelligent and professional manner.
As we continued our business with the police over the next couple of days, I dealt mainly with Constable Franklyn who was in charge of this particular case and his manner remained the same, caring but professional. Although in our bereaved state, the family was very impressed by, and grateful for, how he conducted the business at hand. Both policemen did serve, protect and reassure my family, for this I must say thank you ever so much, you made a world of difference.
I am assured there are a vast number of cases like this but they are kept in the small circle in which they occur daily. I had to make this one public. I am sure there are many good men and women in the force, my advice to them is this "keep strong and press on in the face of adversities, you are appreciated and respected much more than you know by many more persons than you can think. May God bless, protect and keep you all from day to day as you go about the public's and your personal business."
I am, etc.,
