WESTERN BUREAU:
HARBOUR VIEW scrapped their way to a 1-0 win over Reno in their Wray and Nephew National Premier League third round return leg game at the Frome Sports Grounds to maintain their third place in the standings.
Sloppy defending late in the game allowed Harbour View midfielder Jermaine Hue to score directly from a corner kick.
Harbour View and defending champions Portmore United, who edged relegation threatened Seba United 1-0, are locked on 53 points, eight points behind leaders and semi-final qualifiers Tivoli Gardens.
Yesterday's game had little for the handful of supporters who turned up to cheer for as both teams laboured heavily under a hot sun with little gain.
Overly-eager tackling especially from the home players marred the first half and saw referee Howard Stennett issuing three yellow cards and ordering Harbour View's reserve goalkeeper Leeroy Grey from the infield, barring him from taking any part in the game after the portly player was overheard questioning his decisions.
Harbour View had two good chances to strike but Hue and Jomo Gordon both kicked wide from inside the Reno six-yard box.
Reno had the best chances in the second half but Nyron Davis wasted a good chance in the 48th minute when he created some space for himself in the Harbour View area and, after beating goalkeeper Leon Gordon, his curling left-footer struck the inside of the far post and rebounded in to play.
Reno conceded yet another soft goal with nine minutes to go when a defender ducked Hue's corner at the near post and the ball beat a sprawling Aaron Lawrence and flew into the goal.
