Call for land lines
published: Friday | March 26, 2004
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I WRITE on behalf of the citizens of Free Hill, Fontabelle, Crescent, Geddes Town, Hunts Town, Union Hall, Fellowship Hall and Mango Valley in St. Mary. We are in an area with great potential for more development but are denied the use of land lines and the ability to access the Internet service. The telephone lines stop on either side of Free Hill, half mile from Fontabel and one mile from Crescent. The above-mentioned districts are well populated.
We are business people that are engaged in tourism, i.e. hotel and plantation tours. Farmers that produce various crops for the export market, for hotels, cruise ships, also the restaurants and supermarkets in Port Maria, Oracabessa, Ocho Rios through to Montego Bay. We are skilled and professional people offering our services also returning residents and householders who need to call families abroad. We need land lines.
The school children in these areas would be able to get home sooner to do their school projects and be off the roads so late at nights coming from the Internet cafes from as far as Ocho Rios and St. Ann's Bay. Please be aware of the fact that the Cable & Wireless signal is extremely poor to non-existent in some of these areas so we are forced to use mobile phones from your competitors.
I am, etc.,
