Changes in assessment methods
published: Monday | March 29, 2004

"I JUST want to say to these parents and home schoolers that what I would invite them to do is to just send me a letter to say how many students they are schooling at home.

"The Ministry does as much as possible to offer assistance to persons who are out there who we are aware of and who are doing something. The Ministry of Education has a website and all the units are linked into that.

"Currently, I am working with the independent schools to get their websites to link into the system so that when persons go on they can know what is being offered, what is being offered at the other places.

"We have to remember that, as Ms. Blake-Hannah said, we are evolving in terms of information and the Ministry might not be able to move as fast as others or as a group or as a family and therefore would welcome suggestions.

"For example, I am having an Independent Schools Conference (March 30 to April 1) where a number of the things we are going to look at are factors affecting them and some of the presenters are from among themselves, persons who are meeting success in how they deliver a particular programme, so we do share ideas so that people can move forward."
