Frederick 'Toots' Hibbert for NBC's Saturday Night Live
published: Tuesday | March 30, 2004

FREDERICK 'TOOTS' Hibbert is scheduled to perform on American television station NBC's Saturday Night Live show this Saturday April 3.

The Reggae Ambassador will appear alongside funk musician Bootsy Collins, American rappers 'The Roots', and singer-songwriters Ben Harper and Jack Johnson. Also scheduled to appear on popular late night television show is American real estate mogul Donald Trump, who will play host.

The appearance incidentally coincides with the recent release of his latest album, titled True Love.

CHERISH THE EXPERIENCE

Describing the experience as "an honour" Hibbert told The Gleaner yesterday, that he will cherish the experience for more than one reason. "It feels good to appear with these people and to work with them. This is because they are my fans and I am their fans as well," he remarked.

Toots' brush with 'stars' is not limited to the show. His album features some of America's more talented musicians and singers. He has combinations with Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Bonnie Raitt, and Willie Nelson.

"It's just reggae, with live instruments and everything," stated Toots about the album. "I even played guitar on a few of the tracks. For some of the songs, everywhere I go people ask me to do these songs, they are the tunes people want, so we did them."

FUTURE

For the future, Hibbert mentioned that it was business as usual in terms of tours and albums. "the next thing for me is to release more albums. I have tunes from as far back as 1972 and '73 that have not been released. After this album a lot of them are coming out."

EMMY AWARDS

Saturday Night Live is one of network television's more popular shows. Since its first season 29 years ago, the show has won 18 Emmy awards, and has launched the careers of several of the world's greatest actors and musicians.
