WESTERN BUREAU:
RICH ACCOLADES were showered on Mrs Marjorie Stair, the former manager of The Gleaner's Western Bureau, as her former colleagues, friends and well-wishers paid glowing tribute to her in a colourful farewell ceremony at the Bureau's King Street offices, Montego Bay, on Tuesday afternoon.
Mrs Stair, who served as Bureau manager for three years, was described as a goal-oriented visionary, whose gutsy determination created an indelible mark on life at the Western Bureau and in the wider public, which is served by the Gleaner Company Limited.
In recounting her achievements during her tenure at the Western Bureau, Mrs. Stair described her success in transforming the Bureau into a profit centre as her most cherished accomplishment. According to her, that process has set the stage for future growth and expansion.
"There has been significant improvement in the working environment and the technical capabilities of the office," said Mrs. Stair, in highlighting other aspects of her stewardship at the Bureau. "I also have to mention the formation of the Children's Own Club in South Trelawny, which targets primary school students in that area."
NEW HORIZONS
Despite the fact that her resignation took effect yesterday, Mrs. Stair is already seeking new horizons to conquer although she did not outline any definitive plans: "I have something in mind but I don't want to say anything until I have finalised it," she said. "Ultimately, I plan to go back into agricultural consultancy and writing technical reports."
Among those who were present to bid Mrs. Stair farewell were Clarence Nelson, Custos of St. James, Mr. Winston Dear, President of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Norman Reid, National Commercial Bank regional manager for St. James, The Gleaner's Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Garfield Grandison, Mrs Karin Cooper, The Gleaner's Corporate Affairs Manager, and Mr. Bryan Miller, the head of the Jamaica Information Service (JIS) in western Jamaica.
