Do not bash Dawn
published: Thursday | April 1, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM extremely disturbed with the person who wrote a letter 'bashing' Dawn Ritch with regard to the United States of America's response to the Prime Minister of Jamaica about the Haitian crisis.

I would like you to know that if PJ was minding his own business, i.e. finding shelter for the homeless in Jamaica, paying teachers properly, investing more money into crime prevention, etc. then and only then would he have the right to become 'Caribbean hero'.

I do believe that the U.S. has all the right in the world to be angry with PJ for hosting the deposed Haitian president. Why do we have to question some things, but at the same time nobody questions the Braeton killings, or in Tivoli when another set of people were killed by the police force.

In closing, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ambassador Sue Cobb and the United States Embassy for the wonderful work they are doing in Jamaica.

I am etc.
