Club Habibi officially opens
published: Friday | April 2, 2004

THE LATIN inspired Club Habibi has been officially added to the list of establishments vying for a slice of the New Kingston entertainment pie.

On Wednesday night Club Habibi, which has been in operation since November last year, officially opened its doors to party goers who want to get a taste of Latin styles.

While the actual launch party was tame compared to previous much hyped and well attended club launches, the 61 Knutsford Boulevard Club Habibi is intent on carving a niche in the market. Like almost every other nightclub, Habibi offers themed nights. Wednesdays will see a fashion and entertainment party, featuring models from Saint International and designs from some of Jamaica's acclaimed fashion designers and fashion houses.

CLUB 80S

Thursdays are reserved for a Club 80s dance mix with Patrick Lafayette. T.G.I.F. Fridays follow with a combination of two parties - Siesta! at 6 p.m. and Friday Sizzle at 10 p.m.

On Saturdays you can get your groove on with Latin Love, which features Latin dance lessons. At the launch on Wednesday, fashion and entertainment were appropriately linked as the models from Saint International strutted across the floor and throughout the club to dance music. Fashions were presented from the showrooms of local designer Simon 'Siim' Clarke and Lena's Boutique, courtesy of Lena British. The fashions ranged from casual to couture, each with a special feature. One outfit from Lena's boutique was a jeans and T-shirt combination, which had the shirt in dark yellow and the jeans with a patch of yellow fabric placed at the pocket, imitating a 'patch pocket'.

Siim's tropical couture creations featured a surprise at every turn. A long white blouse with slits at both the front and back, a flared hemline and off-the-shoulder combination was one such creation. Club Habibi, though small, offers a wonderful ambience. The dance floor, small too, is quite inviting. It is made with that smooth, glossy finish that suggests it's good for doing the steps, spins, twirls and dips that typify Latin dance.
