Winston Ramsay takes Tastee semi-final
published: Friday | April 2, 2004

WINSTON RAMSAY, a 13 year-old student of the Clan Carthy High School, has won the first Tastee Talent Contest semi-final for the year.

He topped 24 other contestants at the Tastee Outdoor Theatre, Cross Roads, on March 25, singing Ben E. King's I Have Nothing.

Oldies but goodies was the way to go for the first-former, who won $55,000, 400 points towards the finals, a Tastee certificate of participation and a gift voucher from the patty kings.

Marcell Edwards and Delroy Harvey danced away to second place with good timing and humour, taking home $40,000, gift certificates and 353 points towards the December grand finals.

Wain Cooper held the flag high for the deejays in taking third place, amassing 352 points. He deejayed Twin, which spoke of an unemployed father of twins who is determined to do anything he can to support them - honestly. Cooper won $30,000, in addition to $10,000 for Best Original Entry.

He goes on to the grand final in December.

THE MAGICIAN

Kemarsh the magician came on to Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal, made 'bills' from blank paper, ate thread and regurgitated razor blades to earn 331 points, $25,000 and a place in the grand finals.

Yaniqua Shakespeare, the Best Dressed Female, the Best Dressed Male Christopher Maxam and Adaina Chin, who wore the Best Costume, all received $10,000 each.

Other outstanding performances came from eight year-old Sarah Ramsay, who did Try It On My Own, deejay Andrew Kiffin who did Protection and Nedus Hudson, who deejayed Lie.

The guest artistes for the evening were 2003 JCDC Gospel Contest winner Kevin Downswell, past contestant Tuffy Melody and Sister Scully.

Now in its 25th year, the Tastee Talent Contest returns to the Tastee Outdoor Theatre on May 27 with a special anniversary show and talent contest.
