Gov't, do what is right and necessary now
published: Friday | April 2, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I READ in the weekend papers of the death of yet another member of our security forces, which brought that number to six in less than three months. What now seems to be becoming a pattern, is that approximately two lawmen are being killed each month.

I am not aware that these despicable acts are of a personal nature, but seem more to be aimed at Government's authoritarian behaviour and is in response to the nature of government.

The relevant authorities need to first look at the condition and the state of the society and what can be done to remedy its ailments. Until these ailments are addressed with meaning to those affected, this figure may well continue to escalate. Let's not wait for this to be upon us and do what's right and necessary now.

I am, etc.,
