By Orville Clarke, Gleaner WriterTOMORROW's Big Track Price Plus Guineas Day race meet at Caymanas Park offers attractive carryovers on all exotic bets.
Leading the way is the popular Super-6 which starts the day with a whopping $1.2 million jackpot. With heavier than usual betting anticipated, the Super-6 could offer a payout of close to $2 million.
With 12 races down for decision tomorrow, the promoters will offer two Super-6s, the first embracing races one to six. This is in fact the one that will pay a small fortune so punters are urged to get on board early, as post time for the first race is noon. The second Super-6 will be conducted on races seven to 12.
Meanwhile, the Pick-9 boasts a carryover of $631,488,90 and there is also a Hi-five carryover of $179,213.45 going into the 10th race. The Pick-9 embraces races four to 12.
The foucus this week is on the first Super-6 which gets underway with a $260,000 $220,000 claiming race over 1100 metres to be contested by seven starters.
From the look of things, this race promises keen competition among the likes of SELENA MYSTIQUE, PRIME FURY, TSUNAMI and RUNDUMPLINRUN to be ridden by champion jockey Trevor Simpson. I would urge Super-6 players to carry multiple choices to ensure a winning start.
The one best equipped to pull it off must be SELENA MYSTIQUE, who has beaten better in the not too distant past. The grey filly, who was claimed out of her last race on February 21 by trainer Desmond Shand this after finishing third to ABUELO over 1200 metres on a $320,000 tag - is actually down in class for a crack at these and judging from her good win over TSUNAMI in the James B. Dawes Memorial Cup over 1300 metres on January 25, will not go down easily from her convenient mark of 49.0kg and in-form apprentice Oneil Mullings slated.
GAVE IT AWAY
RUNDUMPLINRUN, a good winner over the distance some months ago, gave it away by rearing at the start in a similar 1100m race won by RED BOOTLACES on a $300,000 tag and all in all, was not disgraced in finishing 5 1/2 fifth. If she leaves the gates promptly tomorrow, the task at hand is not beyond her, while the fleet-footed PRIME FURY (also down in class) who was four lengths fourth to RED BOOTLACES, will have to be caught. SELENA MYSTIQUE, however, has most appeal.
Next on the programme is a $390,000 - $340,000 claiming race over 1500 metres to be contested by eight starters, several of whom are in with chances.
Included in the line-up are RED GENERAL, DR. R.S.F., IDITAROD and REJECT, all winners in recent weeks.
After running on strongly to beat FRIENDLY EXPRESS over 1400 metres on a $370,000 tag February 7, REJECT came back with a good effort in defeat last Saturday when finishing six lengths fourth (always prominent) to JOHNNY'S KING in an overnight allowance race over 1700 metres. Now back to claiming company, REJECT must have an outstanding chance with his February 7 winning rider Ameth Robles aboard.
DR. R.S.F., beaten a length by RED BOOTLACES over 1100 metres recently, looks tempting at the weights with only 50.0kg while an even stronger fancy over this trip is Simpson's mount IDITAROD, who beat a good field over a mile on February 28 and wasn't disgraced behind COURT CASE over 1300 metres in open allowance company on March 24.
IDITAROD finished 10 lengths fifth behind a fast 1:19.1 returned by COURT CASE and now back among his peers (claiming) and Simpson replacing apprentice Patrick Henry Jr., the 5-y-o mare from the stables of champion trainer Wayne DaCosta is preferred to REJECT.
The third race over the circular nine course for four-year-olds and up, should see MAMBO coming into his own and winning at the expense of recent winner FLASHING LYNDA and MANISH.
LED FOR A LONG WAY
MAMBO led for a long way when finishing fourth to COMMANDMENT over a mile on March 17 and with less to do in present company, should hold the late kicking FLASHING LYNDA and MANISH at bay.
The profound course specialist THE SEVENTH WAVE gets the nod over in-form BUSHY PARK RAJA and RESTLESS PEGASUS in the fourth race over the straight five course, while classy EPICTATUS has little to beat in the fifth race (overnight allowance) and cannot be opposed.
Another strong fancy to close off the first Super-6 is the improving MOST WANTED who beat all barring the smart debutante LOCHNESS DRAGON over 1300 metres on March 20. The 3-y-o son of Royal Minister has worked well since and should prove too strong for MUSIC MASTER who finished behind him in third last time out.
The second Super-6, embracing the last six races, has bankers in ROYAL RUN in the 7th, LATONIA in the 9th the Track Price 1000 Guineas and of course, the unbeaten DISTINCTLY IRISH in the 11th, the 2000 Guineas.
