Read the Bible in context
published: Saturday | April 3, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

RE THE letter titled, "Hypocrisy over Leviticus":

I AM appalled that Lorelei Kraft would be bold enough to even write that Jesus came to change the message of the Old Testament. Jesus himself said that he did not come to destroy the law and the prophets, but to fulfil it. (Matthew chapter 5 V 17. Jesus did not address it directly because no one asked him the question directly, but it was important to him that He, through the Holy Spirit, inspired Paul to write about it in the Book of Romans, chapter One verses 21-32.

Yes, God is a God of love and compassion but he is a God who hates sin and he will never change his Holiness to suit anyone's lifestyle, and yes you are right, adultery, stealing, lying, murder are in the same category as homosexuality. God will judge everyone of these sins the same way. He is a God that is no respecter of persons.

Heterosexual adultery is destructive to the sanctity of marriage, but so also is homosexuality to the sanctity of life and family. One needs to be careful when you begin to pick out parts of the Bible to try and justify one's behaviour. God gives his word in contexts, so read the whole book that deals with this subject matter before you write.

I am, etc.,
