PRINCIPAL OF the Mico Teacher's College, Dr. Claude Packer, said on Thursday that he was confident that Mico could acquire university status within the next six years.Dr. Packer was speaking at the annual Glen Owen Memorial Lecture on the college grounds in Kingston. He was the featured presenter at the function to honouring the memory of the late Glenville Owen, the first native principal of the 168-year-old institution.
The memorial lecture took place on the penultimate day of the Mico College's annual week of activities, during which the nation's first education museum was opened on Wednesday.
"I don't want to go too much into (the proposals) because the board hasn't approved them yet," said Dr. Packer, a Governor-General's Achievement Award winner and Silver Musgrave medallist.
However, he did note that the Mico College is already in the process of switching its current special education programme to a four-year degree by Septem-ber of this year. He also pointed out that the institution is now "one college", doing away with the separation of day and evening sessions.
