KANSAS CITY, Missouri, CMC:
KANSAS CITY Wizards' general manager Curt Johnson announced this week that the team has waived Jamaican forward Wolde Harris.
The Kingston, Jamaica native joined the Wizards in August of 2003 after being acquired by Kansas City in a trade with the New England Revolution.
"I want to thank Wolde for his work both on and off the field," said Johnson. "He is a class act and we wish him well."
Harris, 30, appeared in 10 regular season matches for the Wizards in 2003, including six starts, and made three post-season starts.
His lone goal in a Wizards uniform came in Game One of the Wizards' first round playoff series against the Colorado Rapids.
Harris is the second Caribbean player waived ahead of the 2004 season, as Vincentian Ezra Hendrickson was taken off the Dallas Burn roster in late February.
The Wizards will open their 2004 MLS season at home today when they host the defending Eastern Conference Champions, the Chicago Fire, at Arrowhead Stadium.
CHICAGO FIRE SQUAD
The Chicago Fire squad includes Jamaicans Andy Williams and Damani Ralph, last year's MLS rookie of the year.
In other opening day games today, San Jose play DC United, the Colorado Rapids, with Jamaica international Darryl Powell, meet Dallas Burn, the MetroStars, with Jamaican Craig Ziadie, play Columbus Crew, the LA Galaxy, with Jamaican Tyrone Marshall on their roster, play the New England Revs, with Grenada's Shalrie Joseph.
