Peter Henry Stewart laid to rest
published: Thursday | April 8, 2004

By Francine Black, Staff Reporter

GOOD, HUMBLE and selfless were some of the adjectives used to describe Peter Henry Stewart, co-founder of Supreme Ventures Ltd., at his thanksgiving service held yesterday at the Stella Maris Church in St. Andrew.

"Today we celebrate a man who discovered his mission in life, a man who discovered his purpose in life," Reverend Monsignor Richard Albert told the congregation.

Family members were overcome with grief during the service which lasted two hours.

Hundreds flocked to the church to pay their last respects to Mr. Stewart, among them Governor-General Sir Howard Cooke and Portia Simpson Miller, Minister of Local Government. Many of Mr. Stewart's colleagues in business and staff of the companies he was involved in, were on hand to offer their support to the family.

The service was filled with songs of thanksgiving and praise and Reverend Albert encouraged the congregation to be more excited about living as Mr. Stewart was.

He was revered as a caring and good businessman who worked hard to achieve his goals. His body will be cremated at a later date.

Mr. Stewart, brother of tourism mogul Gordon 'Butch' Stewart died in Houston, Texas after losing his battle with cancer. He was chairman of the Board of Supreme Ventures Limited and Bearings and Seals Ltd.

Supreme Ventures is creator of the popular CashPot and Lucky 5 games and recently acquired the Jamaica Lottery Company.

He leaves to mourn wife Janette, mother Jean, son Steven, brother Gordon, sister Pat, other relatives and friends.
