ART DIARY

A ONE-DAY exhibition by singer/artist A. J. Brown and 10 other artists is scheduled to open at Jack Sprat Restaurant in Treasure Beach, St. Elizabeth, on April 9, starting at 2:00 p.m. Participants include Ginny O'Neil and Tom Menihan (artists in residence), and local artists Shirley Genus, 'Guilty', L.T., Quest, Dian Ebanks, Faye Natalie, Devoughan Graham and Ronda Bennett. The day will end with a cabaret performance by Brown. Part proceeds will be donated to Breds, the Treasure Beach Foundation.

Art at HEART

THE RUNAWAY Bay HEART Hotel presents an exhibition of paintings by a trio of artists - Ken Abendana Spencer, Paul Blackwood and Courtney Morgan - at the hotel. The show will open on April 7 at 7:00 p.m., and run until April 17.

'City of Kings'

'CITY OF Kings: Black Expo (Step IV)', an exhibition by German artist Gerd Rohling, continues at the National Gallery of Jamaica. The exhibition is being presented in association with the German Embassy in Kingston, and will run until May 15.

'Young Generation'

THE ANNUAL 'Young Generation' group show is currently on at the Mutual Gallery and Art Centre, 2 Oxford Road, Kingston 5. The exhibition features works by 19 artists who have graduated or started to paint professionally within the past 10 years, and will run until April 16.

'From Discard
to Regard'

SCULPTOR NOSBOURNE C. Lee presents 'From Discard to Regard', an exhibition of metal sculpture, at Revolution Gallery, 52 Lady Musgrave Road, Kingston 6. The show will run until April 16

'Eight of the Great'

BOLIVAR GALLERY, 1D Grove Road, Kingston 10 presents 'Eight of the Great', an exhibition featuring works by artists Seya Parboosingh, Graham Davis, Heather Sutherland-Wade, Samere Tansley, P.J. Stewart, Carol Crichton, Patrick Waldemar, and Amy Laskin. The exhibition continues until April 17.

at Harmony Hall

AN EXHIBITION of new works by artist Jonathan Routh continues at Harmony Hall Art Gallery in Ocho Rios, St. Ann until April 17.

'Oneness' at Ja-Ja

'ONENESS', AN exhibition by Rick Kevonian, continues at Ja-Ja Originals art Gallery in Negril, Westmoreland, until April 25.

Everald Brown
retrospective

A MAJOR exhibition dedicated to the work of the late artist, Everald Brown is scheduled to open at the National Gallery of Jamaica in downtown Kingston on Emancipation Day, August 1, starting at 11:00 a.m.

Festival entries

THE NATIONAL Fine Arts and Photography Competitions organised by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) are now open. Entry forms are available at the JCDC head office, 3-5 Phoenix Avenue, Kingston 10, as well as the Mutual Gallery, Grosvenor Gallery, Revolution Gallery, Bolivar Gallery and parish offices islandwide. Forms can also be downloaded from the JCDC website: www.jcdc.org.jm . Deadline for fine arts entries is May 7 at parish offices and May 21 at the head office. Photographic entries must be submitted by June 7. Artists and photographers of all ages are invited to participate.

Scarlett's painting

'MOTHER NATURE'S Calm', an exhibition of paintings by Rheima Scarlett, is currently on at the Dean's Office in the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of the West Indies, Mona, St. Andrew. An art educator, Ms. Scarlett is the former principal of the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts (EMCVPA). The 12 paintings depict scenes visited by her over the last 24 months.

Saturday openings

THE INSTITUTE of Jamaica announces Saturday openings, starting April 24. Once each month the public will have the opportunity to view exhibits in the Discovery Room and the exhibition gallery. Port Royal exhibition

THE EXHIBITION titled 'Port Royal: The Spoils of Trade and Folly' continues at Devon House until April 30. It is organised by the Devon House Development Company, the Institute of Jamaica and Grace, Kennedy and Company Limited.

Art at Akwaaba

PAINTINGS (AND plants) are currently on sale at Akwaaba Gallery, 61 Dumbarton Avenue, Kingston 10.

Stock show extended

THE STOCK show continues at Gallery Pegasus, Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston. On display (and for sale) are new works by Alexander Cooper, Gene Pearson, Dawn Vaz, Sam Phillips, Richard Hall, Eka Davies, A.J. Brown, Bernard Hoyes, and Albert Wallace, Peter Peart, Lennox Coke, Ray Jackson, Gene Pearson, Angella Brown, Donovan Fairweather, Ken Ramsay, and others.

'Curator's Eye'
continues

'CURATOR'S EYE' exhibition continues at the National Gallery of Jamaica, 12 Ocean Boulevard, Kingston Mall in downtown Kingston, until June 19. Viewing hours are Tuesday to Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Interested individuals or groups may contact the gallery at Tel: 922-1561.

Wonderland Fine Arts

AN EXHIBITION of works in bronze, clay and wood is currently on at Wonderland Fine Arts Gallery at Redbones Blues Cafe, 21 Braemar Avenue, Kingston 10, showcasing artists Gene Pearson, Bongo Johnson, among others. The show runs until the end of April, with viewing hours from Monday to Friday, 1:00 p.m - 4:00 p.m., and Friday from 8:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. Tel: 845-0798 for information.
