IT'S THAT time of the year again, when the well-heeled and the party-hearty simply just close their city residences and head for Florida, and or the north coast, simply to get-away from it all.
And so it is, that whilst the faithful will be heading for those places that will be offering spiritual rearmament, for others it will be a parade of Easter weekend parties, stretching from fabulous Port Antonio, all the way into the fabulous beach haven of Negril.
Doves, it's the weekend of villas, beach cottages, hotels and bed-sitters as the 'chic' throws caution to the wind, as they celebrate the bounties of life. And so it will be one weekend of almighty partying and then some!
It promises to be one almighty bumper-to-bumper weekend, too, with the preferred resorts, from the Trident in Port Antonio, Jakes at Treasure Beach on the South Coast, Hedonism II and III in Negril and Runaway Bay, St Ann, in that order, all reporting there's absolutely no room at the inn.
FABULOUS WEEKEND
Doves, it promises to be a mess of a fabulous weekend as the party hearty is all set to take no prisoners, so let the partying begin, and how!
Luvs, if you have not yet invited to the hush-hush shindig, planned for Millionaires Row, over there near Discovery Bay, St Ann, then you did not make the cut, but not to worry as indeed, parties there are a-plenty for the fabulous.
And speaking of fabulous partying, my dears, people are still a-talking about the wedding of Dr. Rebecca Tortello and Dr. Jonathan Greenland last Saturday.
The buzz is, it was all a class act, and then some, with a critically hand-picked shortlist of family and friends in attendance, with the bride's uncle Opposition Leader, Honourable Edward Seaga, waxing lyrical in his toast to the newly-weds.
Meanwhile, over at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, in New Kingston, it was all about the reception being hosted by Chris and Michelle Bovell a sort of society coming-out-party and introductory do for their son, businessman Peter Bovell and his new Trinidadian bride, the lovely Donnia Gomez, on the occasion of their March 20
wedding in the neighbouring twin island republic.
Pumpkins, the buzz here is that it was a peach of an occasion, with guests jetting in from across the globe; others motoring from all over the island to the island's capital for the occasion! In a word: it was one social hot-tamale and then some!
Meanwhile, the north coast, too ,was kicking as the beautiful Kennedy Levee was having her birthday party, albeit belatedly.
But, my dears, this caused nary a concern for her many adolescent friends and their parents who attended the beachfront celebrations, over there near Runaway Bay, in St Ann.
Me daahlings, it was one fabulous occasion with the very best of north coast society and their emerging scions in attendance, and it made for one very fashionable do.
And speaking of fashionable: my dears, the simply divine Sandra Kennedy-Lyn was in attendance and causing heads to turn in her wake as the fashion designer is looking nothing but purr-fect, as in hot-to-trot and then some.
Well my dears, the big question on everyone's lips was, is it her diet? Or was it cosmetic surgery?
Dovecakes, whichever or whatever, the mother of three is looking absolutely-fabulous and sensationally so, causing hubby Trevor Lyn, to be beaming.
Then the word out of the Constant Spring Golf and Country Club that bastion of leisure and privilege, over there near Manor Park in St. Andrew proper is that the club's general manager of many a year, the urbane Al Niazi, has handed in his resignation papers, as he is all set to dedicate more time to his family and business.
A pity here, as indeed, Al Niazi not only revamped the fortunes of the Constant Spring Golf and Country Club, he made it fashionable, once again.
HILTON NOT FOR SALE
Canadian multimillionaire, Ron Kelly of the Canadian Investment Company of RHK Capital Inc., says the Hilton Kingston Hotel is not for sale as is being rumoured.
So says the affable Canadian multi-millionaire who was on one of his many unheralded visits to this here capital city last Sunday. He was at a dinner party thrown in his honour by security conglomateur Kenny Benjamin, at his Stony Hill Estate residence.
My dears, it was another of those Kenny Benjamin power-packed dinners, with a number of the noted and quoted in attendance, as the guest of honour did the rounds -a-meeting and a-greeting old friends and new acquaintances on one of his rare social outings here in Kingston and it made for a primetime do and then some!
Now Kenny Benjamin does not know how to host anything but stellar dos!
And with old friend Ron Kelly in town, the bon vivant was in social overdrive, opening up his much celebrated entertainment cathedral, for cocktails and a sumptuous buffet of Indian culinary surprises and delights, that proved a hit and all that!
It all made for a fabulous evening and then some, as guests lazed through the luxuriant gardens a-sipping cocktails, the city of Kingston and the verdant hills of St. Andrew being the perfect backdrop for a truly fabulous do.
And then to crown what was already a fabulous evening, the host sent it into overdrive, by presenting guests with a copy of the revered book by celebrated Haiku author L A Davidson, made the occasion even more precious.
Among those out sharing felicitations and society, included: Technology Minister Phillip Paulwell; Tourism Junior Minister Dr. Wykeham McNeil and his companion, the stunning Sheila Benjamin-Fernandez; Ambassador plenipotentiary and extraordinary of the Russian Federation Edward Malayan; AIC/NCB Chris Astaphan: JPSCo's head Charles Matthew; noted Caribbean lawyer Aubrey Garcia; Drs. Dhiru and Laura Tanna; noted lawyer Harold Brady; general manager of Hilton Kingston Frank Roshouvel; celebrated architect and owner/operator of the celebrated Red Bones Blues Cafe and Restaurant, Evon Williams; restaurateur Rajiv Bakshi and companion businesswoman Dorothea Gordon-Smith; Jamaica Flour Mills managing director James Gill and his fiancee, lawyer Marino Sakhno; David Palmer of Oceanic Digital; the charming Janet Farrow of Dennis Joslin Jamaica Inc.; Dr. Napoleon Ochoa; the lovely Alison Peart of Ernst & Young; Robbie Epstein; the statuesquely, svelte Sonja Sutherland; Al Niazi and wife Charmaine Johnson Niazi; plus a number of others all making for a wonderfully fine affaire!
CONDOLENCES
Then, heartfelt condolences to the charming Janette Stewart, and family on the passing of her hubby, businessman Peter Stewart, who made the transition, recently.
Condolences also to the family of former model turned European cabaret performer Carla Wright, who also made the transition a few weeks ago.
The peace and blessings of the gods be with you all in this your hour of grief! And a happy Easter to y'all, and then some.
