What about our less fortunate?
published: Sunday | April 11, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I HAVE noticed how corporate Jamaicans have been assisting the Haitians. I have no problem with that. However, can't some of these companies assist the infirmaries in Jamaica?

The Ministry of Local Government is in charge of the infirmaries. The Ministry of Finance does not allocate sufficient money to take care of these places where poor people live. Thus the people who live in these places are not looked after properly. They are under-fed and have no visitation from doctors.

These infirmaries have no money to buy the type of food that will enhance nutritional balance. They can't afford to pay doctors to provide medical assistance to these poor people.

In this regard I am soliciting corporate Jamaica, to donate some groceries and toiletries to these places in Jamaica, out of love for your less fortunate brothers and sisters. Remember, charity starts at home.

I am, etc.,
