THE EDITOR, Sir:
PLEASE ALLOW me space to publicly congratulate Mrs. Portia Simpson Miller for her stance on the fire service financing debate.
Mrs. Simpson's action reflects the ethos of an elder states-woman more concerned with the interests of country than party. More profoundly, however, Mrs. Simpson Miller's actions demonstrate the workability of the Westminster Model, when peopled by honourable ladies and gentlemen.
I by no means support the general policy directions of the Government but must congratulate Mrs. Simpson Miller for her strength and fortitude in the face of open pressure from and to the chagrin of her colleagues.
The internal actions, if any, taken by the party hierarchy against her will reflect the general modus operandi and quality of personnel of that party.
Take heart, Mrs. Simpson Miller, your chances to lead your party may have been severely reduced but history will absolve you.
I am, etc.,
