Pensioners on a wild goose chase
published: Monday | April 12, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

DECREASE INSTEAD of increase. In or about 1999-2000 we as government pensioners were granted an increase of 5 per cent-10 per cent. The Government granted $200 million to honour this increase.

In previous years we were offered 2 1/2-5 per cent yearly as increase. In 2004 the Govern-ment has offered us the same $200 million that had been offered to us four to six years ago. It is evident that this Government has us as pensioners on a wild goose chase.

Mr. Omar Davies also thinks that he is the only one versed in mathematics or arithmetic. He is also forcing unpalatable facts down our oesophagus. Four to five years ago a pint of Red Stripe beer was $14, one pound of chicken, $12. It is apparent that cost of living has risen 400-500 per cent.

We as pensioners are asking the government to do much better for us.

I am, etc.,

DENNIS A.

FAIRWEATHER
