Pronunciations
published: Monday | April 12, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IT IS very painful and embarrassing to listen to the Quiz Masters on Schools Challenge Quiz. Their pronunciations are terrible.

Tuesday night Mr St Juste pronounced the word Chiropodist as Kiro-podist.

Last week Marlene Stephenson pronounced Galapagos as Gala-Pagos. Those are only a couple of examples. No wonder the students give the wrong answer at times. I am sure they are confused by the mispronunciations.

The foreign language questions are also very painful to hear. Where did these people go to school? Can the Quiz Masters not prepare themselves by reading the questions earlier and ask advice on the proper pronunciations?

I am, etc.,

SHEILA BRYAN.
