Mr. 'Helmet'
published: Monday | April 12, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir

MAY I seize the opportunity to commend a certain member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force who is based in Falmouth and works as a traffic cop. They call him 'Helmet!' This officer covers every section of the town, you cannot hide from him. When he approaches you, he will say the nicest hello with a pleasant smile, very polite fellow.

His unique sense of humour is unmatched by most of his colleagues. What is most unusual about this policeman is that he seems to issue tickets more often to persons who appear to be his friends rather than strangers.

Interestingly, throughout my 10 years driving career I have been issued five tickets, guess who gave me those five tickets? Mr. 'Helmet', and I am not one of his friends.

Incidentally, I travel sometimes six days per week from Brown's Town in St. Ann to Montego Bay and I pass at least three sets of policemen daily.

Therefore, whatsoever it's worth I strongly commend Mr. 'Helmet' for a great job. Indeed, he makes a remarkable difference in the force.

I am, etc.,

ROBERT G.A. WATSON
