Ja needs to police the police

THE EDITOR, Sir:
WE THE Jamaican people need an independent body to investigate the police. I am calling on the government in Jamaica, including the Prime Minister the Most Honourable P.J. Patterson and the Minister of National Security, Dr. Peter Phillips to appoint the former Commissioner of Police Colonel Trevor MacMillan as the head of this body to investigate police misconduct, also to break the back of a police state which seems imminent. He is one from whom I believe the Jamaican people will truly get a proper investigation done.
It was so unfortunate for Mr. MacMillan when they removed him from the police force, so this would be a good opportunity for him to serve the Jamaican people again. Now you may wonder why am I calling for a different body to investigate police, other than the ones that are there - because it simply is not working for the Jamaican people. The bottom line is that we need justice and this is one of the ways to go.
I am, etc.,
