Judge not!
published: Friday | April 16, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I wish to respond to a letter from Eileen Powell entitled 'Extreme Passion' published in The Gleaner on April 14, 2004.

I find it difficult to understand how someone who has not seen the movie can comment on its extreme. How can you then judge that our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ did not suffer all that was portrayed and more. Were you there when they crucified my Lord?

You say you have no desire to see such an extreme movie to evoke a love of God. I submit to you that the suffering, death and resurrection of Christ was the most extreme event ever - bar none, and any testimony of the greatest story ever told is relevant. This is the very reason we were given the great commission... "Go ye therefore teaching all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit". This is the same reason believers testify and witness to the goodness of God in their lives, and win souls for God. Are you suggesting that the story of Jesus Christ should be hidden or watered down?

The purpose is not to resolve in our hearts that we will never be part of injustice and cruelty. There is a much greater message which is the need for each one of us to search our own hearts, and to give our life to God - the rest will fall into place.

It seems to me that you are not ready to come to terms with the fact that Jesus Christ suffered, bled and died for our sins and that by his stripes we are healed. You don't wish to be reminded of these irrefutable facts, but however shocked your sensibilities may be (from just hearing about the show) it does not negate the fact that this really did happen.

The Passion is not just a show. IT'S FOR REAL!

I am, etc.,
