Police Commissioner promotes 22 inspectors

VETERAN FRAUD Squad investigator, Fitz A. Bailey, is among a list of 22 Inspectors promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendents by Police Commissioner Francis Forbes.

The names were disclosed Wednesday at a function held at the Jamaica Conference Centre, downtown Kingston.

Before making the announcement, the Commissioner warned the officers to stay clear of corruption, telling them to "be very careful" and not to "allow anybody to lead you down the wrong road."

Mr. Forbes also disclosed the names of 41 police sergeants who have been promoted to the rank of Inspector.

Those promoted to Deputy Superintendents include Dennis Watt and Denver Baker of the Special Anti-Crime Task Force (SACTF), Mel Brown of the Kingston Central Division, Noel Christie of Community Relation Division, Winchroy Budhoo of August Town, Selvin Haye, Crime Officer for Clarendon, Kingsley Wilby, Crime Officer for Westmoreland, Vilmore Austin of the BSI.

Also included are Marlene Daley, B.A. Ricard, William Smiley, Fitz Albert Lawrence, Owen Campbell, Jennifer McDonald, Pauline Foster-Turner of the Traffic Headquarters, Clement Logan, Ena Harris, Rae Harper, I. McKnight and Marlon Nesbeth.

Those promoted from sergeant to inspector are: Detective D. Graham, Det. P.P. Pink, M.G. Curry, E.M. Spencer, Stephanie Lindsay, E. Steer, Jackie Green, C.A. Green, W.K. Wright, R.L. Swearing, G.A. Gordon, Det. H.I. Beckford, L.R. Salmon, L. Minott, R.G. Rowe, K.G. Thomas, N. Williams, L.R. Johnson, H. Cummings, Michael Grant, R.E. McFarlane, Carlos Bell, P.J. McFarlane, M. Campbell, G. McFarlane, R. Heron-Frate, M.J. Beckford, T.O. Archer, E. Halliman, E. Oniel, Juliet Gibbs, A.E. Brown, D.B. Llewellyn, L.M. McBean, G.Brown-Campbell, O.M. Cranston, J.J. Dixon, C. Boyd, F.G. Facey and C.Y. Peate.

Under the Jamaica Constabulary Force's newly-implemented policy on police conduct, personnel above the rank of sergeant who qualify for promotion, along with those to be assigned to sensitive areas of the police force, will now be mandated to undergo an integrity test.

Further reports are that a number of divisional officers who have been acting in that position, have also been promoted. Included in that list are Deputy Superintendents Cornelius 'Calf' Walker of South St. Catherine, Wrenford Robinson, Area 5 Crime Officer and Terrence Bent of Clarendon.

The Gleaner further understands that Superintendents Ealan Powell of the Traffic Division, Clifford Blake of St. Catherine North and Calvin Benjamin, Area 4 Crime Officer have also been promoted.

Meanwhile, those moving from from Senior Superintendents to Assistamt Commissioners are: Glen Hinds, George Williams of Area 5 and Carl Williams of the Narcotics Division.
