Coventry sends Lowe home
published: Sunday | April 18, 2004

WELLINGBOROUGH, England, CMC:

COVENTRY CITY Football Club has sent Jamaica Reggae Boyz striker Onandi Lowe home until further notice following his arrest this week on alleged drugs offences.

Northamptonshire police arrested Lowe and a 23-year-old woman on suspicion of possessing a controlled drug with intent to supply. They did not identify the substance involved.

"It is important that we have people playing for the team who are 100 per cent focused and I believe Onandi has other issues to contend with at present," remarked Coventry manager Eric Black on the team's web-site.

"Although Onandi is innocent until proven guilty, it is important to stress that Coventry City Football Club takes a dim view of any involvement in drugs and will take strong action against any member of staff who is proven to be associated with such activities," added chief executive Graham Hover. Lowe and the unidentified woman have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Lowe become the second Reggae Boy to run afoul of the law. Last month, Frank Sinclair and three other Leicester City players were detained in Spain to answer a charge of sexual misconduct.
