Transform the music industry
published: Monday | April 19, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WE NEED a reformation and a transformation of our music industry. Gone are the days when certain types of music could only be heard at live sessions or dances. Now it is very popular to hear lewd, degrading, 'verbal porno' ,and violent-filled lyrics on the street side, in public transportation (minibuses, taxis), at school fetes and even at schools' sports days.

The music of course influences the dances. Something must be wrong with the packaging of our music and dance in recent times. It seems harmless to 'fan down the bus', 'screw out the bulb', 'play the piano'. However to say with the same monotone "shoot the man", 'cut him throat', 'drown yourself' is almost like sending subliminal messages to the listener and the dancer.

The Bible says that "whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things".

Let us think on some of the messages that we are sending on the air waves.

I am etc.,
