By Anthony Foster, Freelance WriterST. CATHERINE CC and Melbourne became the first teams to cash in on the Supreme Ventures/ Super Cup winning incentive of $25,000, after wrapping up impressive first round victories yesterday.
St. Catherine CC, led by Jermaine Lawson's first innings (5-23) and Dean Morgan's 100, defeated Westmoreland by 10 wickets at Chedwin Park, while Carlton Baugh's 132 and Nikita Miller's match haul of nine wicket to set up Melbourne's nine-wicket triumph over hosts St. Elizabeth at Alpart Sports Club.
Baugh, Morgan and the JDF's Anthony Folkes who scored a century in his team's first innings win over Kingston at Sabina Park, along with Miller, Lawson, and Alton Beckford who had a five-wicket haul against Melbourne in a losing effort, all won for themselves $10,000.
AT CHEDWIN PARK - St. Catherine, resuming on 188 for four with Dean Morgan on 83, went on to make 244 for the loss of two additional wickets.
In scoring an even century, Morgan struck seven fours and two sixes off 207 deliveries and along with Andre Davis, 30, set up St. Catherine's early declaration. Dwayne Ewart ended with 2-40.
WORTHWHILE CONTRIBUTION
In their second turn at the crease, David Morgan (3-17), Bevon Brown (3-50) and Odean Brown (2-26) combined to dismiss Westmoreland for 154 as only Ewart, 51 and Donald Tomlinson, 29, made any worthwhile contribution.
Set 13 to win, the Morgan twin, Dean five, and David, five, secured victory in 3.2 overs.
AT ALPART - Left-arm spinner Nikita Miller and Llewellyn Meggs shared nine wickets for Melbourne to secure their first win and $25,000.
Meggs took 5-15 and Miller 4-53 for a match-haul of 9-76 as St. Elizabeth faltered for a second innings 200, leaving Melbourne 38 for victory, which they achieved with the loss of one wicket.
AT NELSON OVAL - Boys' Town replying to Lucas' first innings score of 292 for nine declared were bowled out for 150 and forced to follow-on, reaching 120 for six at stumps.
Omar Campbell, 34, top-scored in Boys' Town's first innings against Omar Burke (4-39). In their second innings, Oniel Weir hit 72 not out to save the day for Boys' Town, while Christopher Senior's took 4-23.
AT SABINA PARK - Anthony Folkes notched an even 100 to lead the JDF to 271 for seven and first innings honours.
Folkes' hundred was laced with nine fours and two sixes from 154 balls, and along with good support from Marlon Kennedy, 41, and Wayne Cuff, 38, got his team past the 230 made by Kingston in a match shortened by rain.
AT KENSINGTON PARK - Manchester declared their first innings at 331 for seven, to which Kensington could only mange 198 for seven. Cory Phillips was left unbeaten on 44 for Manchester against Marcus Stewart (3-98) and Anthony Kepple (2-39).
When Kensington batted, Maurice Kepple, 52, Samuel Douglas, 50 not out and Wavell Hinds, 32, made most runs against Donovan Sinclair, who took 4-59.
