Incompetence should not be rewarded
published: Tuesday | April 20, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WHERE ARE the objective voices of truth in the Jamaican society? They should be found among all its citizens as a reflection of true democracy. I can only hear political views by these so-called intellectuals who have their own agenda, and the viewpoints of the masses are drowned in the sea of unheard voices.

It is time we look at the political management in Jamaica without party affiliation and truly describe it correctly:

Failure to achieve its goals to improve the disenfranchised sector of our society

Failure to foster unity among its citizens.

Failure to create meaningful economic stimuli for economic growth.

Failure to create a safe environment for inner-city communities.

Failure to monitor and manage the financial resources properly.

With such a report card in mind, we should be requesting the resignation of the present leadership.

If we don't we are sending a destructive message to our youths that incompetence will be rewarded. We must never find ourselves in a position of choosing party affiliation over the love of country. We must always embrace truth as the zenith of our existence and call failure of management its correct name, ineptitude.

We who are in positions to point out ineptitude must do so with honesty and resounding clarity.

I am, etc.,
