THE EDITOR, Sir:
IN YOUR issue of April 6th, the Rev. Devon Dick, in an article titled, 'The Significance of Jesus' death', said and I quote: "Jesus' death is a picture of sacrifice. Here was a man willing to die for all".
With all due respect to the Rev. Dick, Jesus was not willing to die nor did he die willingly.
According to the Bible, he called upon God to save him. Let this cup pass from me, he pleaded, but no help came. Neither from God or his followers. His last dying words were, "My God, my God, why hath thou forsaken me". Those were not the words of a man willing to die. Those were the words of a man wanting to live.
Jesus Christ was murdered (crucified) by evil men who did not like his philosophy. That Jesus died to save mankind make for good preaching but is in fact a fallacy. If Jesus' dying was to save the world, he died in vain. The world today is more evil than it was then and not worth saving. Even the so-called "Holy Land" where he dwelt is today a holy hell.
I am, etc.,
