PNP's budget contriving lies and deceptions - Shaw
published: Tuesday | April 20, 2004

By George Henry, Gleaner Writer

SPALDINGS, Clarendon:

OPPOSITION SPOKES-MAN on Finance, Audley Shaw, says his presentation in the Budget Debate today, will be used to show the nation how deceptive Minister of Finance and the People's National Party Government have been to people over the years.

Addressing members of the JLP Area Council III, at the Spaldings High School on Sunday, Mr. Shaw said his presentation would be based on the records as accumulated by the current administration over the years.

"I am not going to be delivering a speech based on my records. I am going to use their own record to clear the air of the lies and deception, because that is what the PNP survives on in this country," Mr. Shaw said.

He made it clear that his presentation during the Budget Debate would not be about fiscal policy, budget deficit, nor about global issues, but that it would be about bread-and-butter issues, the survival of the Jamaican people, their quality of life under the present administration, among other things.

The opposition Finance Spokes-man noted that when he is through with his presentation, he was confident that the Jamaican people would agree with him, that the budget as presented by Finance Minister Dr. Omar Davies, was contrived on lies and deceptions.

"When I am finished on Tuesday, it does not matter when they call the next general election. Jamaica Labour Party people are going to clear the way once and for all, and say, we are going to get rid of this government," he said.

Mr. Shaw pointed out that Jamaicans do not want a government which continues to fiddle with figures, but that they wanted one that can create jobs, among other things, geared towards a better way of life.

He stated that the Jamaican populace needs to know where the country is going economically and that his time during the debate would be spent to do just that.
