THE JAMAICA National Building Society (JNBS) yesterday feted more than 30 of its secretaries at a Kiwanis Club of Kingston luncheon meeting at the Hilton Kingston Hotel in New Kingston.
The workers, in a prelude to today's 'Secretaries' Day' celebrations, were honoured for their dedication and loyalty. Christine Bennett, secretary of the year in the Kingston Chapter of the Jamaica Association of Secretaries and Administrative Assistants, was a featured speaker at the Kiwanis meeting.
Ms. Bennett pointed to this year's theme, 'Administrative Professionals Ambassadors of Excellence', as one which she said reflected the role of a secretary, adding that they were "key frontline representatives for their organisations and employers."
She noted that secretaries needed to continue developing new skills, especially in what she said was an ever changing environment where greater demands will be made of them in the workforce.
Earl Jarrett, general manager of JNBS, added that secretaries played a very important role in the society's operations.
"Secretaries do carry a significant brunt of the work in the organisation. If the truth be told, the managers only manage and the secretaries do the work," he said.
Nsombi Jaja, management consultant with Quality Managemnet Consultancy Company Limited and guest speaker at the function, encouraged the gathering to maintain a positive attitude which encourages success.
