Shame on Adams!
published: Wednesday | April 21, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

SSP RENETO Adams' statement that the Police High Command are 'a total failure' and they are just as 'dangerous as the common criminals' speaks much to the feeling of bitterness which Adams currently holds towards that group. SSP Adams' statement is highly disrespectful and it is very unprofessional for a senior officer of the JCF to publicly disgrace and embarrass the high command of the force in this manner.

Such an act sends the wrong message to, and sets the wrong example for, younger members of the JCF. SSP Adams needs to respect the fact that Commissioner Francis Forbes and the other members who form the PHC ought to be accorded the respect and co-operation they are entitled to.

RESPECT AND CO-OPERATION

Similarly, when SSP Adams was head of the former CMU, I'm sure that he expected the full respect and co-operation of the men under his command and would never have tolerated a member or members of his staff verbally disrespecting him.

To act and/or speak in a manner counter to the professional code of conduct of the JCF, in relation to the PHC, empowers the criminal elements and ultimately serves to weaken the JCF. I have no doubt about SSP Adams' strong dedication to crime-fighting. However, his negative public statements in regard to the PHC, in my view, places his dedication to the JCF in question.

I am, etc.,

PATRICK A.
