Barbados and Guyana have already voted for who they think should be chosen among the five greatest West Indians for the region's 75th anniversary of Test cricket.
From today, Jamaicans get to select five representatives from 15 nominees to join the best cricketers the Caribbean has produced.
Scotiabank and the West Indies Cricket Board joined forces to celebrate 75 years of West Indian cricket with the festivities climaxing here with the Jamaica Gala ceremony at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on May 11.
Dubbed the Scotiabank West Indian Jubilee, people from Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados, Guyana and the Combined Islands (The Leewards and Windwards) have voted or will vote for their favourite players.
Thirty players from the aforementioned countries will make the final shortlist, from which a Wisden jury will select the top five based on the total votes each player received.
The Wisden jury is made up of about 30 sport journalists and cricket administrators who are renowned for their knowledge of the game.
Seven Barbadians, five Jamaicans, five Guyanese, five Trinidadians, four from the Combined Islands and four 'Wild Cards' chosen by the Wisden jury will comprise of the 30 greatest players from which the Wisden jury will select their top five.
FIVE GREATEST
The five greatest players will be announced at the Scotiabank Jubilee Gala at the Symphony Hall, Birmingham, England on July 30.
Barbados have supplied the most Test players (30) and therefore have a greater number of players in the final 30. Jamaica, Trinidad and Guyana have all supplied 21 each.
Jimmy Adams, Gerry Alexander, Jeff Dujon, Chris Gayle, Roy Gilchrist, George Headley, Jackie Hendriks, Michael Holding, Frank Martin, Patrick Patterson, Allan Rae, Lawrence Rowe, Collie Smith, Alf Valentine and Courtney Walsh are Jamaica's 15 players that the public will choose their top five from.
Voting began from April 9 and runs until May 8.
Votes can be cast at www.scotia
bankwestindianjubilee.com, at Scotiabank branches islandwide or through voting forms in The Gleaner which can be filled out and dropped off at Scotiabank branches.
Wisden held a similar search in India in 2002 and all-rounder Kapil Dev was nominated as that country's greatest player of all time.
