THE EDITOR, Sir:
ON SATURDAY April 17, 2004 the Governor-General of Jamaica, Sir Howard Cooke, spoke at the Mico Alumni Chapter of South Florida. His Excellency moved the audience with a most inspirational speech. He walked the audience in nostalgia on the 'good old days in Jamaica'. He invited the many Jamaicans living in the United States of America especially South Florida, which is in close proximity, to visit home this year and enjoy some of the many programmes being put on by various organisations to stimulate interest in happenings back home.
The Mico Alumni Association celebrated its 17 years of existence by presenting scholarships to three very deserving high school graduates who will be attending universities in the fall. The dinner was well attended. a host of dignitaries including the principal of Mico college, many South Florida politicians which included six Jamaican commissioners, Former Prime Minister of Barbados Mr. Sandiford, judges, and other distinguished guests.
I am very proud to see that Mico is leading the way in giving back to deserving young people as they aspire towards higher educational goals. We look forward to other great functions like this for our Caribbean people.
I am, etc.,
