What's the plan?
published: Thursday | April 22, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM very relieved that the Minister of Finance's Budget presentation revealed no additional taxation and I am very happy to note how proud he is of the state of the Jamaican economy today!

I am however worried about the need to continue to borrow to pay back our previous loans and am very unhappy that we plan to borrow so much to do housekeeping.

Would the Minister care to tell the nation in due course what the timetable is, if there is one, to reduce the country's debt as a percentage of GDP to levels that are internationally acceptable and in line with countries similar to ours - especially our CARICOM partners.

I look forward to hearing from the Government on this matter.

I am, etc.,
